What is a Detox – Birmingham Rehab Centre. I get asked this a lot. A detox in the drug and alcohol healthcare system is where a client is addicted to a substance of either drugs or alcohol. These do not have to be illegal drugs. They can be any drugs, prescribed etc.

What does a detox do?

If you are being detox from a drug or alcohol, or both. What we do is find a similar medication which is safe and prescribed in the UK. We then replace your drug or alcohol with either pills or a liquid form. These new legal save drugs will then replace the drugs or alcohol you where addicted to. Our aim then is to reduce the new medication, in a medically save way, until your body is totally free of the drug or alcohol you were addicted to.

How long does it take?

With alcohol it takes 7 days, or 10 days for a heavy drinker. You will be out of withdrawal in 72 hours. You will not go through withdrawal before that, as the medication we give you will make sure of you do not. With drugs it varies. Opioids take much longer to detox from. But do not worry, you will be given medication to stop the carvings. Over the counter drugs will very on length of time to reduce.
