| Detox
A detox is where
the substance you are addicted to is simply removed from the
body in a medical and safe way, ie, Drugs or alcohol. You
must remember that a detox does NOT cure an addiction. It
removes the substance from your body, yes, but then without the
psychological aspects of addiction the user will almost
certainly return to there addiction. I hear time and time again
of people who have had a 5 day detox, a 7 day detox or even a 14
day detox who have all gone back to drinking or drugs within a
few days of being at home.
A
MEDICAL DETOX ALONE VERY RARELY CURES AN ADDICTION
PROBLEM.
Every medical
detox needs to be measured against the following:
- Clients age
- Clients weight
- How long the
client has been on the substance
- The type of
substance the client has been using
- The clients
physical health
A detox needs to be handled very
carefully as it can be FATAL if not.
NEVER
ATTEMPT TO DETOX YOURSELF
(without medical advice)
There are certain drugs which do
not need a medical detox. These are:
- Cannabis
- LSD (acid)
- Crack Cocaine
- Powder Cocaine
In these cases where a medical
detox is not needed we issue medication for the following:
- Restore there appetites
- Restore there natural sleep pattern
